DON’T FORGET THE ROOF!!!

The technical term for the black streaks on your roof is Gloeocapsa Magma, more commonly referred to as algae or black mold. Not only is this substance unsightly, adding years to the life of your home and reducing your property value, it can also be a health concern.

Tar that is used in roofing is a great food source for algae but it also feeds on the limestone in the shingles causing rapid deterioration.

Rain and wind assist algae in finding areas such as your sidewalks and driveways, where this fungus will be sure to find its way into your home. While not all mold and algae bring a danger to your health, some are more harmful, especially to the elderly and small children with compromised health. Another entry point is through the air conditioning units that are working harder due to the presence of the mold and can eventually grow in your air ducts.

Excessive mold growth needs to be resolved. It is not just about the look of the roof, and the property value, it also shortens the lifespan of your home.

The “dirt” that comes off the roof is not just dust, it’s alive. Thankfully, this can be rectified with a professional roof cleaning. Simply using only water will not kill this live substance. And using a pressure washer on your roof is NEVER a good idea. Honestly, this is probably NOT a good DIY project for many reasons, including peace of mind, this treatment is best left to the experts.
